Good morning all and what a great week it has been so far.

This week we are running on the theme of habits.

Hey, Hey, don’t run away yet! Yeah, we know that when you add a new habit to your life the process often goes like…

But habits are vital to success, especially in the sporting world.

It’s just that its not always easy to break lifetime habits for us or our youth athletes. Adding a new habit to already busy lives can feel crazy hard too.

So today we have some tips around some habits that are important for youth athletes to have and how to go about incorporating them into their lives. Who knows, it may even help you - our goal this week is to get you adding habits that make you feel…

🏆️ A quote to share with the kids

This one is short and sweet - the complete opposite of Shaq who actually spoke the words 😅.

It’s not groundbreaking stuff - but that’s the thing. There are no magic wands when it comes to success… but efficiently using the time we have to repeatedly spend it on habits that turn you into the person you want to be is where the gold is.

“Excellence is not a singular act

but a habit.

You are what you repeatedly do”

Shaquille O’Neal

🎙️ Podcast

Boom! This week we recorded our first podcast.

Speaking with mental skills coach to elite and youth athletes, Zane Winslade of Flow Sport, we came away with some real nuggets around habits as well as:

  • Player identity.

  • Confidence.

  • Courage and walking towards discomfort to build belief and toughness.

  • Visualisation.

  • Dealing with disappointment.

  • How to perform in moments that matter.

🥑 Nutrition Habit Hack

Rather than throwing out those old brown bananas, it’s time for a new habit to put them to use as fuel for your athlete.

This Banana Bread recipe has no added sugar - the sweetness comes from bananas. The darker they are, the sweeter they taste.

It make a great pre-training snack, or during a long training session and comes to us from Nadia Lim via Dr Katie Schofield. Check out the recipe and Katie’s tips for some delicious toppings!

⚛️ Atomic Habits…on speed!

I took my two teenagers through this on Wednesday - it was fantastic. I had read this book years ago and knew it was full of brilliant tips and tricks but there was no way I was going to get my boys to read the whole thing.

And then I came across this;

Hmmm, pictures are good, went my thinking. A visual summary might be shorter than a book, I surmised (good word, right!). It. Is. Gold.

Short, sharp, and incredibly powerful, it is a must read, but definitely for you athletes and scholars to help them understand the process to success. The visuals are so good I now have them printed out in my office so that we can go over them regularly.

My boys loved it and came away with:

Click the pick below to check it out - we would love to hear your thoughts on it and whether it helps your athletes or not, so please email us back if you feel inclined.

🗺️ The Game Changer Journey

You might have noticed a bit of Game Changer branding standing out at the top of the newsletter - our stylised ‘g’ that uses the tick as a runners arm. After loads of back and forth… and back and forth… and back and forth… The Game Changer is going to be the name of our community, newsletter and podcast. Soon to be released will be our overarching brand for our youth performance nutrition products - we are super excited about how it is looking and can’t wait to bring it to you.

🥝 Next week we will be sharing who the nutritionist is that we are partnering with and what a story she has! We will update you on the product creation process too - it’s super fun and super scary and super daunting all at the same time!

💻️ We are starting on the website next week so anyone who considers themselves youthful looking and athletic 🏃‍♀️ give us a shout as we will be looking for models soon for some lifestyle shots! It will be built on a budget by ourselves so no laughing if it looks like this:

☕️ My Habit

No not this one:

I’m not ready to give that one up yet!

I’ve fallen off the wagon with my habit of getting out in nature the past two weeks. I’ve been injured and stuck on a wind trainer rather than running in my favourite forest, and I can feel the difference of not being in nature regularly.

My goal this week is to get back out there at least 4 times for fitness, freedom, my soul, and bit of peace and clarity. I’m hoping to at least jog but if the leg is not up to running at least I can still join this crew for some forest aerobics.

All jokes aside, I AM getting back out there this week - injured or not. Mindset and habits are everything.

I’ll take a shovel just in case.

What habit are you adding or changing this week. How are you helping your athlete to understand habit creation?

Have a great week!
